2007 Court building, St. Poelten - Austria

Design entered in the competition for an addition to an already existing court building in St. Pölten. The proposed extension takes up both the existing streetside section of the neighbouring prison and the section of the facade of the court building. The staircase has been created at the place where these two already existing sections meet, thus forming an open atrium which connects all the storeys of the old and new buildings. With its cornices, the new volume is approx. 2 metres lower than the existing building, yet it overlaps the old building as a new protruding architectural element.
